Jeff Hays is a voice actor and the founder of Soundbooth Theater, known in LitRPG for Dungeon Crawler Carl. His other audio work includes Life Reset (2017) and Chrysalis: The Antventure Begins (2022). These are useful starting points for exploring his work beyond Carl’s dungeon.
Audible listeners often praise his humour and the different personalities in his voices. In Dungeon Crawler Carl, one describes the main voice as gravelly, while another highlights the funny animal characters. The comments also praise the balance of jokes and drama.
He may suit listeners who enjoy strong character acting and comic voices. If you prefer a quiet, even reading, try a sample first. This Inevitable Ruin, the seventh Carl book he narrates, appeared on Audible’s best science fiction and fantasy list for 2025.

Where to try this voice
Soundbooth Theater lists this first episode as free. It has a cast, music and sound effects. Use it to try that production style, then compare the standard Carl recording before choosing an edition. The episode is a new version of the opening, not the next book.
